| Born in 1947 in Sarnia, Ontario,
PAUL
CLENDENNING
attended school and completed his education in the Sarnia
area. Sarnia is one of the principal transportation links between Canada
and the United States and is located within a day’s drive of half of North
America’s population. Sarnia is also well known for its Chemical Valley
with its base of many major petrochemical industries.
Following graduation, Paul accepted employment in Sarnia with Polysar Rubber Corporation, the only synthetic rubber plant in Canada. In 1990, Bayer AG (Germany) acquired the company; as a result Sarnia Site’s Rubber Division is now a major contributor to Bayer’s position as the world’s largest manufacturer of quality synthetic rubber. During his career at Bayer, Paul has advanced to positions of increased responsibility moving from a Wage Supervisor in the Electrical Generation Department with responsibility for the control of the high voltage distribution system in the plant to Shift Supervisor of the Steam and Power Plant. Paul and his wife Donna have three children. He enjoys bowling, curling, golfing, surfing the net and helping others in the community in his spare time. He has been an active member of the Elks for 25 years. Through friends in several 10 pin bowling leagues he attended many Elk social activities and in June of 1974 he joined the Sarnia Elks Lodge # 503. The following year he was elected to the Office of Tyler and was the Exalted Ruler of the Lodge during 1981/82. In 1983 he was elected District Deputy of Ontario District # 4. In 1984 he was installed as Chaplain in the Ontario Elks Association and progressed through the Chairs to become President in 1991/92. During this time he also spent three years on the National Membership Committee. Paul has always promoted the formation of new Elk Lodges and in 1991 was instrumental in the Institution of London Lodge # 587. He also assisted in the formation of Napanee Lodge # 588 and Petrolia Lodge # 590. He also played an important role in the re-institution of the Sarnia Royal Purple Lodge # 341. In 1992 at the Grand Lodge Convention in North Bay, Ontario Paul was elected to the National Executive as Grand Chaplain and annually progressed to become the Grand Exalted Ruler, the National President of the Elks of Canada, again in North Bay, in July of 1999. Paul has chosen for his theme " BE MEMBERSHIP PROUD ’’. Paul believes that the members of the Elks of Canada should be very proud of the fact that they belong to an organization which provides opportunity for men and women to join together in fellowship, as they promote and support for the needs of their communities, and assist Canadian children with special needs. Each year the membership raises millions of dollars and donates many volunteer hours to support the Organizations Mission Statement; ELKS OF CANADA A NATIONAL, FRATERNAL AND CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING COMMUNITY NEEDS THROUGH VOLUNTEER EFFORTS OF LOCAL LODGES. |
