WOMEN IN THE BIBLE: THREE STORIES
Here is a wonderful opportunity for you and your group to see an accomplished story teller recount three Old Testament stories about strong, remarkable women.  Fare Hare, of Stephen's College in Edmonton, Alberta is a theologian and educator who enriches our understanding of Bible stories by adding historical, cultural and contemporary insights into the lives and times of these women from the Hebrew scriptures:

HANNAH RUTH AND NAOMI RIZPAH
Dr. hare originally told the stories at the Western Women's Conference in Kananaskis, Alberta in the fall of 1992.  We are pleased to now make this educational experience available to people throughout the country who are interested in learning more about these women of the Bible.  The questions in this interactive video encourage you make the link between their stories and your own.                   Study guide and promotional flyer included with video

CHARLIE TAKES THE PLEDGE
Don Harron describes Charlie Farquharson as "a faithful man", a man of good heart, faithful to his convictions, and genuinely puzzled by some of the things that go on in the world around him.

Charlie Takes the Pledge takes us on another visit to the Farquharson family farm as Charlie is true to form as he considers the meaning of his giving, his Stewardship, as part of his faith.  We see that, in many ways, Charlie's attitude towards Stewardship is not that different from a lot of us.  With the assistance of his wife, Valeda, and his son, Orville, Charlie resolves the issue, but not before some old relatives get into the act!  This video takes a humorous look at the idea of signing a pledge--you be the judge if Charlie is a mon of heart.

BAPTISM: BEGINNING AND BELONGING: A Congregation's Celebration
People come to faith in many different ways.  Some are born into it, others discover it late in life.  For all, there are milestones and decision-point along the way.

This video looks at the process of Christian Initiation through a series of dramatized vignettes within the life of a single congregation.

Produced for the United Church's Working Unit on Worship & Liturgy, the video models ways of using the Church's service for "Baptism and the Renewal of Baptismal Faith".  In the video, congregational members from very different life situations and age groups, come together in a common liturgical act of commitment and renewal.  A very useful resource for interpreting to others the United Church understanding of baptism and Christian initiation.

OUR PRESBYTERIAN HERITAGE: A CELEBRATION OF OUR ROOTS 1985
Back in 1908, it was the Presbyterians who first approached the Methodists with the view to creating what eventually became the United Church of Canada.

The simpleness of competing for souls on the western Prairies and the continuing divisions inherited from another continent helped to fuel the fires of a broader church union for a new land.

This video traces the Presbyterian roots of The United Church Of Canada.  Filmed on location in Pictou Country and in Quebec's Eastern Townships, it provides a moving and provocative insight into the contributions of the Presbyterian ancestors of The United Church Of Canada

BEGINNING THE FAITH JOURNEY 1982
This program outlines some of the main beliefs and practives surrounding baptism in the Christian church.  It was developed in conjuntion with a special report being studied by The United Church of Canada which was to exam the current baptismal practices with a view to deepening the Church's sense of God's purpose and will in Jesus Christ as expressed through baptism.  It also encouraged congregations to recover some of the rich liturgical rites associated with the sacrament. Beginning the Faith Journey offers a visual model of what these rites might look like in the United Church today.  Although they may be unfamiliar to many people, these baptismal rites continue in use among Anglican, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians and increasingly in many branches of the Reformed Church tradition.
