Lambton Presbytery Habitat for Humanity Build 2011
Lambton Presbytery has agreed to sponsor a build in Sarnia-Lambton in 2011 and in Haiti in 2012. The cost of the build is $35,000.00 in Ontario and $5,000.00 in Haiti. Yes, these economic times are tough and church membership is on the decline, but the gospel reminds us of our mandate to assist those in need. When Jesus said, "Feed my sheep", he had both spiritual and physical needs in mind. There are approximately 4816 church members in Lambton Presbytery.
Many of our members, no doubt, meet at Tim Horton's for coffee from time to time. If each member donated the equivalent of 7 medium cups of Tim's coffee at $1.38 a cup, over $46,000.00 could be raised for Habitat for Humanity. That works out to one medium cup of Tim's coffee every two months for a year. Think of how much we could raise, if individually, we donated the equivalent of 1 cup per week for a year.
Donations may be made directly to the church treasurer. They should be designated for the Lambton Presbytery Habitat for Humanity Build. A receipt for income tax purposes will be issued by the church treasurer. These funds will then be sent to Susan Bedggood, Treasurer of Lambton Presbytery.
The Habitat for Humanity Committee would like to have a contact person for this project in each pastoral charge. Please forward the name and phone number of this individual by the end of December to Ida Burley at idaburl@oxford.net
Early in the new year, each pastoral charge will be receiving a letter from the Habitat for Humanity Committee.
In the story of the feeding of the multitude found in the gospel of Matthew, over 5,000 were fed from a food supply consisting of 5 loaves and 2 fish. There is enough for all when we are willing to share.
Yours in Christ,
The Habitat for Humanity Committee
